History

SmithLee Productions was founded in 1979 as an audio recording studio and music production service. Our goal was, and still is, to provide the best possible quality audio in a comfortable and creative environment. Over the years we have had the privilege of serving thousands of clients, including corporations, ad agencies, musicians, record labels, publishers, video and film directors, and many others.

We have won many awards, worked on variety of music, film, TV, radio, and internet projects.

First in St. Louis to do audio to video synchronization. At our grand opening in Maplewood in 1985, all rooms were equipped with multi-track and 2 track tape machines. Our facility has been through many upgrades over the years. Soon after opening we upgraded from 2" 16 track recorder to a 2" 24 trrack recorder. in 1990 we began our digital transformation by adding a New England Digital Post Pro. We now have ProTools systems and a large selection of analog and digital outboard equipment.

As technology changed and the needs of our clients evolved, we expanded our services to fill those needs. In 1995, SmithLee began developing websites, and in 1998 began programming custom projects. In 1999, SmithLee Productions founded E-Merge Interactive, LLC which now offers a full line of digital marketing and multimedia solutions. We also expanded our sevice in 2000 to include video production.

Sandra Smith – In-House Composer

SmithLee Productions' staff composer/producer Sandra M. Levy Smith has written and produced original music for hundreds of projects, including documentaries, radio and TV commercials, web programming, videos for corporations and non-profits, and children’s projects. Her clients include John Deere, the Missouri Department of Conservation, SSM Health System, BJC Health System, Anheuser Busch, Sierra Club, Missouri Press Association and Child Evangelism Fellowship. Sandra has also been commissioned to write and produce library music for the Sonoton Production Music Library, the largest independent music library in the world.

She has won numerous local, regional and national awards for music composition throughout her career at SmithLee.

Freelance Engineer - Patrick Skinner

Patrick Skinner is a Webster graduate and an accomplished bass player and songwriter. He serves as a freelance audio engineer for SmithLee Productions.

Barry Lee - Co-Founder
Senior Engineer

Barry Lee is one of the founding partners of SmithLee Productions and brings a diverse background in theatre, art, technology, and production. He serves as both director of production and senior audio engineer, focusing on the day to day operations at Smith Lee.

He also manages Smith Lee’s sister company E-Merge Interactive, an interactive and web development company. Some of Barry’s clients include Southwestern Bell, Monsanto/Solutia, General American, Anheuser-Busch, Maritz, Missouri Department of Conservation, and more.

Kerry Brown - Partner

Kerry has been in the video/audio production industry for over 30 years. He served as an Account Executive and Sales Manager before taking his current position as VP of Sales at SmithLee Productions. During his time here, he has worked with Maritz, Hussmann Corporation, Brown Shoe, Emerson Climate Technologies and many more Corporate 500 companies.

He also serves as a Partner and Account Director at SmithLee’s sister company, E-Merge Interactive. Kerry is also on his 17th year on the board of Advertising Club of St. Louis and on his 5th year on the Executive Committee.

Dave Smith - Co-Founder

David Smith is President and founding partner of SmithLee Productions. Originally a music production innovator himself, as an account manager Dave has built longterm client relationships for more than 4 decades, throughout the many technological changes in the recording industry. The thousands of projects he has managed include music recording, radio and TV commercials, all aspects of corporate audio and video production, online catalogs, animation, sound design for motion pictures, original music production, audio and video streaming, podcasts, ecommerce, and language translations. Dave is also a founding partner of Emerge Interactive. Some of Dave's clients include Keith Urban, Carrie Underwood, Hal Linden, Disney, Ascension Health, Random House, and Washington University.

Dave was a member of the ITVA (now MCA) for many years, as well as a member of SPARS.
